Game 036 [Action/Voice] - Once More With Feeling

[ If you happen to be celebrating the new year with some coffee or pastries or... whatever else Hanekoma feeds people at Kat's Kradle, then you might hear the sound of someone tuning a violin coming from the second story.

It starts off quite out of tune, but within a minute or two, it sounds fine. Then, Joshua starts up a piece of music: fast-paced, somewhat frantic, somewhat chaotic, without chorus or verse, but it has an overall feel to it of life, of progress, of change.

Or maybe you just missed the whole performance.

Either way, a little later, the following goes out over the journal. ]

Why do you want to go home? [ And then, after a short pause, ]

Why do you want to stay?

Pretty quick at assumptions, aren't we?

Really. I've heard that one before.

Any reason why you don't have a "home"?

Probably the same reason a lot of people don't. Circumstances changed and what once was couldn't be.

A lot of people in general, or your world in particular?

In general. Nosy, aren't we?

Simply curious. Why have you made such an assumption about people in general?

Personal observation. A lot of people leave where they were born and doesn't think of it as home thereafter. A lot of people don't. Doesn't change the fact there's a lot in both categories.

Fair enough. Have you ever wondered what the difference between them is?

Can't say I have. People aren't that interesting.

You don't think so? I find them fascinating.

Sure you're just on cloud nine about now.

I do my best with what I have. There were more people back home, though.

It'd be pretty hard to have less unless you're from some sort of containment facility.

Or a rural village, or some time further in the past than when I came from, or maybe a future where some sort of catastrophe has wiped out most of the planet or such. There's a lot of ways, and they breed a lot of different types of people.

[Hah.] A 'future' like that would still have more people than this dump in most cases, it just would be over a wider area.

But the number you would come across during a day would be quite similar to here. The only change is whether you can travel or not.

If life is as harsh as what we've described you would have to travel or you'd be dead, given the lack of resources.

Not necessarily. People didn't travel nearly as much as they do nowadays in the past, and they survived rather fine.

They didn't live in a wasteland where the environment around this is more volatile than a rondis in a Walstock.

And that's not necessary, either.

[Right. You try going on a planet that's been glassed - that's how she's imagining it. But that said, there's a pause and a snort]
