Name: Yoshiya “Joshua” Kiryu Fandom: The World Ends With You Gender: Male Age: 15 (by appearance, though it changes depending on how much of his power he’s currently sealed away), actual: unknown Time Period: Post-secret-ending, but he hasn’t found out that Hanekoma’s the Fallen Angel yet Wing Color: Rainbow (rather than a steady gradient, it’s more like a smattering of colors) History: Here.
Personality: Joshua can be… well, a jerk sometimes. He purposely annoys people to see how they’ll react to it. He’s pissed off many people and made many enemies this way. It doesn’t matter to him.
Joshua’s always up for playing devil’s advocate; making people question their beliefs, leave their comfort zones, and discover things about themselves they never knew before. Though it’s often difficult to tell, he tries to encourage people’s personal growth, even if his preferred method is a sink-or-swim trial by fire.
It’s hard to tell whether things he does are done deliberately or on a whim, and he’ll act the same either way. He’s curious, clever, observant, and resourceful. He likes being deliberately obtuse and vague. It’s difficult to get him mad and keep him mad, but he doesn’t forgive easily, doesn’t trust easily, and might hold well-hidden grudges.
He’s very much used to being top dog, and hates having it any other way. He won’t outwardly complain, but he’s always looking for a way to turn things the way he wants. He’s not above lying and manipulation to get what he desires. He can turn off his emotions in a moment if necessary.
However, at his core, Joshua isn’t a bad person. His priorities are much different from most people’s, and he has a slightly skewed sense of morals, but in the end he does what he believes will cause the greatest benefit to the most people. He’s willing to make tough decisions and takes responsibility for them, despite any resistance he might face from others.
Strengths:
Physical - Joshua is physically, nothing special. He has below-average strength, speed, and stamina, which admittedly is a bit more than you’d expect from his paleness and scrawny appearance. However, he’s got powers out the wazoo. It’s seen that during battle he can create columns of energy to attack with and do short-range teleportation. He can also, to some extent, bend and manipulate space to his will (think Neo from The Matrix Trilogy, which TWEWY totally ripped off the bullet scene by the way). He is able to change his appearance to be older, at which point all of his powers are increased several-fold.
Mental - Canonically, Joshua is able to control access to his thoughts by mind-readers, as well as manipulation of other’s memories. His true age is unknown, but presumably he’s been alive for at least several generations, and has gained more experience in that time than most humans could ever hope to have.
Emotional - Joshua has a decent amount of control over his emotions. He’s frequently able to look at the humor in a situation and ignore the parts that he doesn’t like, as he often brings up things that are more amusing in the middle of unfavorable situations. He can also completely ignore his emotions if necessary, and is good at making impartial decisions.
Weaknesses:
Physical - Without his power, Joshua is a bit weaker than the average human. It isn’t trivial to change between his forms (even if he makes it seem that way), so he can be limited in a situation that requires him to switch quickly. Also, without all of Shibuya to support him, his stamina when using his powers has been greatly reduced (from ‘nearly unlimited’ to ‘actually has to mind his usage’).
Mental - Joshua is very confident, and as a result he has a tendency to underestimate other people’s abilities or potential. He thinks very highly of himself and refuses to admit that he might be wrong or have any sort of weakness.
Emotional - Joshua has a difficult time empathizing with people. He doesn’t care for other’s opinions, which can make him come across as rather cold. He doesn’t socialize well, and often appears selfish. |
