Game 056 [Voice]

New Feather season.

[ Joshua gives a frustrated sigh, and there's the sound of sipping as he takes a drink from a cup of coffee. Dammit, Hanekoma, your nervous habits have finally worn off on him two years after the fact. ]

If any of you were wondering, I've been gone for at least a week and a half. And if anyone cares to give me a date, I can give you a more precise duration than that.

[ Not that Joshua is too terribly fond of being in the village, but at least talking to people is good for taking his mind off of things. Being held captive by his lonesome gives him a little too much time to think, and being poked and prodded is almost preferable. As long as things never get as bad as they did his first kidnapping. He'd take a month of solitary confinement over that. ]

They tend to give us an experiment right before the New Feathers come, don't they? Cause or effect, which do you think? [ He takes another sip of coffee. ] And while I'm asking, what did I miss this time?

Dunno. It's like, you know, when they write things down and then the tings come true. Or they come true and you write them down. Or writing them down makes what was maybe true more true and then you have a whole case of truthfullness.

That's why solitary confinement was one of the worst punishments a man could get - still is. I guess it might not be so bad if you have a few voices in your head.

I think it's more common than people like to admit. I heard once that talking to yourself was a sign of genius, but I guess that might get negated if it's more than one voice talking back at you.

But, like. Imagine someone took your life, exaggerated your personality and threw in some really dramatic story-telling cliches and plot twists like long-lost siblings, spontaneous pregnancies, and "he was evil all along!" and you might have an idea of what it was like around here for awhile.

Could just be a convenient coincidence, but I've definitely noticed the pattern before. Maybe it's some weird side effect to all the shifting, but otherwise, I can't see a huge connection.

Maybe it's like ripples. You can let the wind blow on the water, and that will usually give you small waves. Or you could pick up a stone and throw it in to create larger ones.

Generating a smaller Shift, and then the world creates a more complex one in response, pulling more of us here.

It's a theory to consider if you think the Malnosso might want to bring more captives here deliberately.

Huh... You know, that's actually a good point. Question is, would they really want more people here? Sure, that means more test subjects, but if their goals really are to find a way out, that's kind of counterproductive.

On the other hand, it might be other way around. If they cause a smaller Shift beforehand, the larger one that brings us here may lose energy and pulls in less people.
